Blessed Richard Whiting OSB and his Companions

On 24th October we had an extremely interesting talk on Blessed Abbot Richard Whiting the last Abbot of Glastonbury given by Dr Tim Hopkinson-Ball. The lecture was attended by approximately 40 attendees and was very informative giving details of the Abbot's brutal execution with two of his Monks on 15th November 1539. Tim gave details of Richard Whiting's education, initially at Glastonbury then going on to Cambridge where he obtained his MA and Doctors Degree. He was ordained as a Deacon and Priest before returning to Glastonbury as Chamberlain. He was then selected as Abbot by Cardinal Wolsey. Tim produced many slides giving information written by others regarding Abbot Whiting he also showed us a hand written letter by Abbot Whiting written in Latin and a dish purported to have been used by Abbot Whiting.

This was a very enjoyable evening and we look forward to more interesting talks given by Tim in the future.
