The Most Holy Name of Mary
Fr Dominic’s Homily
A new era of grace and salvation begins with the miraculous conception and birth of Jesus.
We begin to see the fulfilment of this prophecy and the unfolding of God's plan of redemption in the events leading up to the birth of Christ.
Just as Eve was the original mother of all humanity, now Mary becomes the new Eve and mother of the second Adam, Jesus Christ, who will redeem humanity.
Just as sin came into the world through Adam and Eve, now redemption comes into the world through the new Adam and the new Eve.
This new era of salvation begins with the miraculous conception of Jesus in the womb of Mary who finds favour with God. This child to be born is conceived by the grace of the Holy Spirit.
Mary's prompt response of "yes" to the divine message is a model of faith for all believers. Mary believed God's promises even when they seemed impossible.
She was full of grace because she trusted that what God said was true and would be fulfilled.
She was willing and eager to do God's will, even if it seemed difficult or costly. We can say that Mary conceived Jesus fully in her heart before she conceived him in her womb.
The name of Mary will always be a name of honour and a holy name that we can call upon when we need help in any situation on our journey towards Christ.
